Do You Have A Memoir In You?
Adair Lara currently teaches memoir writing as well as being a writer herself. Here is praise from one of her students: “You were always able to find something redeeming in our work and communicate it with enthusiasm. It was often your faith that something coherent and interesting could be wrested from what seemed like hopeless drivel that gave me the strength to rewrite a piece.” High praise, indeed!
Lara began her writing career in local magazines—first at San Francisco Focus, the city magazine, and then at SF, a design mag where, she says, “I passed myself off as someone passionately interested in interior design.” In 1989, The San Francisco Chronicle offered her a column, which she did twice a week on the Back Page for 12 years. In 1990 she was named Best Columnist in California by the Associated Press. She is author of Naked, Drunk and Writing, a book on how to write about your life.
